Fractofusus is a group of four women: Jill Elliott, Trish Elphinstone, Anne Ryan and Camilla Cancantata, all composer/performers who met through the Oxford Improvisers' collective.
Fractofusus was an ancient being, part animal, part plant. Its fern-like fractal fronds enabled it to absorb nutrients from the ocean and process them into something new. Similarly, we absorb, blend and share our diverse musical backgrounds, producing the sound that is Fractofusus.
In October 2017 we did a concert to celebrate the Tree Charter at the Friends' Meeting House in Oxford. The music you will hear is from a recording of that concert. The opening piece is an improvisation based on post-it notes collected from the audience responding to the question: What is a Tree?
